I'm in love. But don't worry- It's not with you. And, I know what you're thinking in your head right now, it has to be someone- he is probably just saying not you but really it is me and not everyone else. But I guarantee that anyone who reads this, isn't going to be that lady (sadly.. I silently hope that she may stumbleupon this for one reason or another and refuse to stop searching the world until she shows up at my doorstep to confess how much she, in fact, loves me too).
Many times, I have sat through different talks about not settling. And really, no one should ever settle when it comes to relationships, etc. So, my best friend, Jared, and I came up with a list of criteria that would have to be met by our future significants.
Many may consider this a mean thing to do. But honestly, I believe there is someone for everyone. I also believe, that someone has to be on par with you- otherwise someone is going to end up unhappy. It's almost like the cast system in "Brave New World." Just adding the concept that not everyone belongs to everyone.
Here are my criteria. This is basically just to give you some thoughts about things you may want to consider (or things to work on if you want to get with this! lol)
You have to be beautiful. Note: This beauty doesn't have to be aesthetic. My family can tell you, I haven't always gone for the most beautiful of girls- but I don't see them from the outside. Not like you believe when I say this anyway.. but hopefully you will. The idea here is I need for you to be comfortable with you.
Next, you have to have a talent. Everyone has something they are good at. Everyone. I need to know that there is something you would do over everything else. Something you acknowledge you have a gift for and, most importantly, want to share with everyone. Like singing. It's awesome.
Additionally, you have to have a passion for something. For some it's volunteer work, others it's being there to listen.. there is so much you can have a passion for. The reason this is different than a passion for your talent, is I expect this talent to be selfless- something you are passionate about doing for other people. That's severely lacking in modern society but needed more than ever.
One of the most important is you need some advanced level of intelligence. I can't stand not being able to hold a conversation with someone about anything other than reality tv and which famous person is with which other famous person. Sometimes, I like to talk about science! Yes, chemistry! And politics, like an informed decision about who you want to vote for in 2012. And rocks! You know how cool rocks are? And how diverse of a rock culture we have in California. Even if you don't know about rocks, I want you to be able to understand what I'm saying. Or my favorite. Radios- like radio fundamentals and radio wave propagation. That stuff is so fascinating to me. But, it totally kills my buzz when you just can't follow.
Maybe this is asking quite a bit- but I'm finally taking a stand for myself. I'm done settling. I used to think there wasn't anyone out there who could make me happy- so I would just make someone else happy. But I know there is someone who can. By developing these criteria, I know I won't settle again.

Holiday Spirit
"It is claimed by many Biblical scholars that December 25th, the day celebrated in Christendom as Christmas, cannot be the correct date [of the birth of Christ]. We believe April 6th to be the birthday of Jesus Christ as indicated in a revelation of the present dispensation. . ."*
Growing up, I always believed that Christmas was the birth date of our Lord, Jesus Christ. When I was younger, my family made a habit of baking a birthday cake for Christ on the 25th of December, so that as a family we would remember the true meaning of Christmas. Growing older, I've taken to reading more and more books that help me to develop myself as a person as well as develop my faith. In "Jesus the Christ" by Elder James E. Talmage, it is revealed that the actual birthday of Christ is April 6th!
Reading this book has really helped me focus my life on Him. Being a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is something that needs to be just that. We need to be a church about Jesus. I'm not saying we aren't, but! - I was surprised how few people know the actual date of Jesus' birth.
I still think Christmas is as appropriate of a holiday as ever to celebrate the miracle that happened when Heavenly Father sent his Only Begotten down to Earth. Plus, America and the world is so set in it's ways now- good luck changing that holiday even one hour, let alone four months. So, my family will most likely continue the tradition of baking birthday cakes on this special day with family, but just don't forget to wish a happy birthday to the Savior of Mankind on April 6th as well.

Library Date
21. I just had a very good friend, who I incredibly respect, tell me that she has read my blog and had a little input about a topic that I love to ridicule, heh. Make-up. If you all remember, it is something I implore. However, for once, this young beautiful lady brought up an incredible point that I honestly must say I haven't considered. My argument (in case you forgot) was that make-up just hides the beautiful features that we have been endowed with at creation, and takes the focus off of the inner self and onto the outer body. My friend discussed with me the alternative to that. People who don't wear make-up (not all of them, mind you) may do so just because they don't take care of themselves, or take the time to show people that they matter to themselves. There may be some out there who don't wear make-up or do their hair because they are just lazy, not because they are embracing the natural beauty of the woman. I still believe make-up in excess, is what out of hand and that it is not needed as much as consumers today use it. However, I guess I can see now that make-up in a minimal way, or as a way to highlight certain features, is a good thing to have. " However, make-up, if used correctly, is a way to highlight your natural beauty (for example, eye-liner can act more like a picture frame for your eyes which ought to be the main focus of your face) and show that you take time to present yourself in a way that shows respect." I absolutely love this very close friend of mine and totally appreciate that she took the time to help me understand this. So now, I must rephrase my final stance on the make-up policy. Too much make-up, or slathering it on your face to cover up what should be shown, is unacceptable (I still hate it when it gets on my clothes). However, a girl who takes the time to show that she cares for herself and wants to present herself in a pleasing and respectable manner to those she cares about, is perfect. This is what women should be embracing and I'm glad I see it through the eyes of one such woman who cares.

Zompocalypse Now
20. T-Lazer's guide to the Zompocalypse
Hey everybody. I'm back! And with a topic near and dear to my... brains! Hearts won't matter when the ugly Zombie Apocalypse rears it's head. Here are some things I am doing to ensure that when that time comes, I will be ready. You can too with these simple steps!
Step One. Start saying Zompocalypse. Zombie apocalypse just takes too long to get out. I'm sure you've found yourself fumbling over those words anyway- so just embrace the contraction. Time is precious and in the future zompocalypse, you just won't have enough of it to say two words when one will suffice.
Step Two. My good friends at Zombiefit.org suggest that "if you're ready for the impossible, you will most likely survive the improbable." They created an awesome workout that changes each day to get you functionally fit for the zombie revolution. Check it out- it's like a creative mix of that hardcore cross fit I know you have all heard of, with some cool looking and functionally important parkour for when you need to make those supply runs into town.
Step Three. Not only do you need to start hoarding martial weapons, but you need to become proficient with them. Guns are obviously something that everyone is going to steal at the time, and good luck finding ammo in a few months when no one is alive to make it- so you need to get some swords, or knives, or staves, nunchucks, escreema sticks. Anything. I recommend the Zombie Knife line from K-Bar. With a knife for each of the four horsemen that not only look cool but are also deadly and inexpensive (relatively) you can't go wrong.
Step Four. Start a food supply storage system. Most of the members of my church have a food storage plan that will feed their family for up to a year after a disaster happens. During a zombie showdown- this is way too much. But you should have something ready for when the grocery stores are looted down to the cotton balls and the land is filled with famine. I estimate staying at home will be practical for about three months or so. But you have to realize, one day the remaining population is going to wake up and realize the government has no plan to save them, and then start roaming the streets, house to house, stealing or killing for survival. At that time, sad to say, it's probably kill or be killed.
Which brings me to step five. One way or another you need to start mentally preparring yourself to take a life. One. Zombies are dead. or were... either way. You need to kill them again or be killed. Two- if another human being makes the choice between him or you, he is choosing him. You need to choose you and stick to your choice. Otherwise, points one through four are irrelevant.

Thank you very much
19. (Unfortunately I can't be posting everyday. Life comes up- for example yesterday was on watch 24 hours straight.. Literally could not post. So I'll just number them as I go and get as much in here as I can).
Turkey Day!!
Obviously today is about thanks. (I can tell you what I'm not thankful for right off the bat- that America massacred the Indians shortly after they established such an amazing holiday...)
Hopefully I can throw some thanks out there that you guys don't hear too often, just to mix it up. But of course I have to start with family.
Kelsi! I love you so much and I'm so thankful for you (and nicky too!!). You have been a huge example to me and I am so thankful you were persistant with church. I was rather stubborn. But thanks to you, I made it to the temple and secured the greatest blessings of my life (except when marriage comes up- but so far the best).
Mom! You're the most supportive and awesome mom every. Thank you so much for always being there and loving me. It means so much to me to think that you are thinking of me every day!
Dad! Thanks for setting such a wonderful example in my life and inspiring me to grow in my military career as well as an individual. You've always been there when I needed to be and thank you so much for serving this country.
Quinn! Thanks for serving our country- twice! And I'm sure there is more to come. You're way awesome and definitely more superior to me. Except with the military (which makes me way manlier than you haha). You're pretty legit and I can't wait to see you again.

Not just the fact that there is music- but you know that music that illicits the most pure feelings you have ever felt. When you can't think of anything- you just feel a particular feeling inside and out. No matter the feeling- happy, sad, angsty, angry, nostalgic, love. It's an amazing thing and I am thankful for it.
